Brief Description

The route starts along the Whitegate Way, which we leave after a short distance, using footpaths to cross the meadows to reach Foxtwist Green. Further on our trail crosses farmland and descends to skirt the village of Whitegate and reach the site of the former Vale Royal Abbey. A short woodland walk brings us to the first of two lock systems on the River Weaver and onto a pleasant, broad riverside path. Usually plenty of bird spotting here. After a short road stretch, the route passes Bradford Mill Farm, tracks and paths return us to the Whitegate Way. An easy walk takes us back to the start. This walk is a round of the Cheshire Vale Royal area, following a mix of paths, tracks and passes through meadows, woodland and by the river. Minor ups and downs and two very short roadside stretches.
