Brief Description

 

From the car park we follow the canal feeder south over the A53 to reach the head of the Leek branch of the Caldon Canal, from where we make our way to the dead centre of Leek (Cemetery), before ascending through Ballington Wood and passing Ballington Grange Farm to gain 360 deg panoramic views over the Staffordshire countryside. We soon pick up the Saffordshire Moorlands Walk which we follow firstly with a section of quite rural lanes and to eventually pass through the Haregate area of Leek. We continue on the SMW passing above Tittesworth Reservoir and then turn for home through Abbey Wood and the pretty hamlet of Abbey Green, before crossing the A523 to reach the old railway line which we follow back to the Old Rudyard Station and our cars

Brief Description

 

From the car park, passing Bamford Mill the route then joins the Derwent Valley Heritage Way following the old railway path to Ladybower Reservoir. Along a forest track we turn south and take a steady path up to the heather plateau and then to the summit of Win Hill. Then a steady descent to Thornhill along a short section of the old railway back to the car park. Features: Great views, Hills or fells, woodland.
