Brief Description

This is not the planned walk onto the ridge leading to Shining Tor. 90% of that walk is on open moorland which, if the current weather persists, will become progressively more uncomfortable in the heat. The proposed walk is part of one which I led over 3 years ago. It is basically a figure of eight where we can take a lower route alongside the reservoir and through forest to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat. From the car park(free) at the end of the Errwood Reservoir dam, we walk back over the dam, then through fields and woodland above the reservoir to reach the path up Wildmoorstone Clough. Eventually reaching the sealed tunnel on the old Cromford & High Peak railway we follow the trackbed to the top of the Bunsall incline and drop down the old road leading to the drowned Errwood village. Retracing our steps back to the dam we then make a circuit of Fernilee Reservoir, the route being fairly sheltered and the return through trees. Ice Cream van at the car park!
