Location: Marsden

Leader Tim Birch
Depart Time Stretford 9.00
Travel Time 1 hour
Grade Moderate
Distance 7 miles
Map OL 21 South Pennines
Postcode HD7 6AX Railway Pub
Grid Ref SE 048 118
Approx Ascent 1150 feet
Brief Description From the car park we pass the parish church and cross the A62 to commence our steady ascent of Pule Hill, firstly over farm pasture to gain the open moor, from where we head for the ventilation shaft and nearby memorial cross giving panoramic views over the Colne valley. From here we climb on a good path to reach the ridge which leads to the Summit of Pule Hill at 437m. However, before reaching the summit we take a short detour into the quarry just below the ridge to visit the Poetry Seat and view the Snow Stone. From the summit we descend steeply southwards to cross the minor road and loop over the Redbrook Reservoir dam, before picking up the Standedge Trail to wind our way back below Pule Hill, and finally finishing with a short section of Huddersfield Narrow canal.
